Unstoppable Storage The Ultimate Backyard Upgrade
Is your garage bursting at the seams? It’s time to stop compromising on space and start investing in a structure that actually works for you. The Fair Dinkum Builds Clarence Valley team has just put the finishing touches on a project that proves you don’t need a massive footprint to get massive results.
This 5m x 8.9m storage shed is the perfect example of how smart dimensions and premium finishes can transform a backyard into a functional powerhouse.
Compact Footprint, Massive Utility
While some sheds are built for broad-acre farms, this build was designed for the homeowner who needs high-performance storage in a streamlined space.
- Optimized Clearance: Standing 2.8m at the eave and reaching a 3.29m apex, this shed offers plenty of vertical room for shelving and tall equipment.
- The Power Entry: We installed a heavy-duty 2.5m (H) x 3.7m (W) roller door, providing a generous 2.43m height clearance. Whether it’s a high-roof SUV, a boat, or a pop-top caravan, getting your gear in and out is a breeze.
- Engineered Precision: The 11-degree gable roof provides that classic silhouette while ensuring efficient water runoff—essential for our local weather.
Designed to Impress: Colorbond Ironstone
Style matters. This shed was finished in Colorbond Ironstone using the rugged Monoclad profile. Ironstone is a deep, sophisticated navy-grey that adds a modern, high-end feel to any property. It’s a bold choice that stands out for the right reasons while being incredibly easy to maintain.

Do I need Council Approval to build a Shed in NSW?
In NSW, if you require council approval depends on a few factors such as the size, shed location and what you will be using the structure for. Many smaller, standard sheds can be built without council approval while larger or more complex structures may require council approval. Generally speaking, if your build meets the below conditions, it could meet exemptions and won’t need approval, remembering that every council across Australia builds and approves to a different set of rules. We can assist with the council process and advise accordingly.
You generally don’t need council approval if:
- The build floor area is 20 square meters or less
- It is no higher than 3 metres above grand level
- It is set back at least 900mm from the property boundaries
- It is not located in front of the house
- The build is for domestic purposes
- It doesn’t have any living areas or bathrooms
- The property exists under a residential zone
- There are no heritage or environmental restrictions on the site
