How do I start building a shed?
Building a shed involves several steps, from planning to construction to ensure that you build your dream Shed, Carport or Garage. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get started:
Planning and Designing- Decide on your shed’s purpose and what you intend to use it for. This will help you plan the size, layout, and inclusions. Remember to future proof your structure in case you want to make alterations down the track. Our Shed designs allow for the end caps to be adjusted should the need for change pop up in the future.
Checking Local Council Requirements – Contact your council or speak with us to see whether your development is exempt or needs to be processed through to a DA for approval. Remember that this process can take a while, so allow plenty of time for the process, it can’t be rushed!!
Choosing a Location – Select where your structure is going to sit on your property. Check that it is level ground and easily accessible if a truck needs to carry out a delivery of your Shed Kit and that the position that you have chosen is at least 900mm away from your boundary. If there is uneven ground or the fill quality is not to standard allow for these charges in your budget planning.
Pick a Design – There are so many designs to choose from, do you want to blend it or stand out? If you need inspiration for your Shed, Carport or Garage design, use the Fair Dinkum Builds Designer App to decide on the size, roof type, door and window placement and ventilation requirements.
Prepare for Approval – If required submit your DA to your local Council and await your DA Approval Certificate and CC Certificate so that your Shed building process can formally begin.
Prepare the Site – Clear and level the ground, mark out your structure and have your local concreter pour your foundations or slab. Wait the concrete cure period which is normally 1-2 weeks weather dependant.
Shed Assembly – The most exciting part is building your Shed, Carport or Garage. One of our professional builders will carry this out or alternatively you may choose to DIY if you have the technical know-how.
Finish and Maintenance – Sit back and enjoy your build for years to come. Do make sure that you carry out an annual wash and inspection to keep it in tip top shape.
